You know that commercial brand carpet freshener that goes for about $2.50? Did you know that you can make your own for around 50 cents?

All you need is two ingredients!
That’s it! And the great part is that you can make it in any fragrance you want. My favourites are bay, grapefruit or a blend of rosemary and mint.
How to make your own carpet freshener
- Put about 1 1/2 cups of baking soda in a container
- add 6-10 drops of essential oil
- and stir.
The container I use is a recycled baking powder container. You can also DIY a shaker container by punching holes in the top of a recycled plastic container. Just find one that has fairly thin plastic for the top, and use a hole punch or cut with scissors.
All you do is shake the mix all over the carpet, and let it sit for a few minutes. Then vacuum.
Not only will your carpet smell fantastic, but so will your vacuum cleaner!
